Our Story
Hackulous has been on the forefront of iPhone app cracking since it all started two years ago. In the time that we've been around, our interests have been vested in several things: 1) the security and privacy of our users, 2) the moral integrity of our services, and 3) the usefulness and progress of our work. Our intentions are to provide a service that helps people trial applications freely, to combat the lack of a refund policy on the App Store.
This is what inspires us and our community to do the work that we do. In the last two years, we've expanded to millions of people's lives, and currently operate the largest, by far, cracked application index in the world. We receive millions of hits a day, and our software is on millions of people's iDevices.
We have been strictly against competing application indexes for quite some time now; the reason apptrackr exists (and the reason that Appulous was created) was to consolidate cracked releases using the organization that the iPhone App Store platform provided. We dislike disorganization and we aspire against insecure application indexes ran by inexperienced fools, like many of the alternatives to apptrackr can be classified as.
Grabulous
Last year, Kyek (with the help of Reilly) made Grabulous to address a competing website which began selling pirated apps. Since then, no event has been brought to our attention that has justified a frontpage announcement and disclosure until now.
What's going on now, then?
UPDATE! iPhone Cake has ended the Hot Uploader program! Thank you from everyone on our staff! Check out iPhone Cake at this URL and thank them too!
The submission process for apptrackr and App Cake is simple. Upload to a filehost and submit your link, and as long as the filehost is on our whitelist the link will be posted on the website. The whitelist exists to make sure that only filehosts that benefit the community are allowed.
There's also such thing as a private whitelist: a whitelist available only for certain people. Sometimes this is useful, if you can only trust certain crackers with certain filehosts. We even have a private whitelist on apptrackr available for two of our trusted crackers.
However, App Cake has taken this too far. They have recently announced a program which gives crackers who donate $30 access to a private whitelist. This private whitelist essentially allows selected, paying crackers to profit from their submissions by bribing the staff.
This is a very unethical thing to do, and it completely contradicts the purpose of our scene. They said in a statement that the program is meant "to encourage uploader by giving them profit from download, and at the mean time, give no chance to the spammers," meaning they are willing to jeopardize the moral integrity of their own staff, users, and the entire scene just to get donations and give incentives to their crackers. No thought was put into this at all.
I publicly and wholeheartedly ask iPhone Cake to suspend this program immediately and, if possible, refund all of the donations associated with it. Success!

Here's a little update on the Super Monkey Ball Day promotion. The banana hunt was a huge success! With hundreds of entries, there were bound to be some close calls. 26 bananas (July 13th multiplied by 2nd Anniversary) were hidden on Hackulous, apptrackr, tipyourservers, the fake Cydia page, donators repo, and on IRC.
While no one person found all of the bananas, all of the bananas were discovered by at least someone. Good job!
If you're interested in knowing where we hid all of them, look no further. I've included a list below that has all the locations of our bananas! At the moment, all the bananas are still there, but we'll start removing them soon, so go check them out quick!
And now, what you all came for... the results. Drumroll please!
Grand Prize Winner ($100)
bigmcq77, who found an amazing 22 bananas!
First Runner Up ($50)
artypig78, with 21 bananas!
Second Runner Up ($25)
Esamu, also with 21 bananas!
Third Runner Up ($15)
mh123lol, with 21 bananas too!
Since artypig78, Esamu, and mh123lol all found 21 bananas, it boiled down to who sent it first.
Artypig78 beat mh123lol by FOUR minutes! Congratulations!
Honorable Mentions ($10)
Ozzapoo (20 bananas)
Holosoth (19 bananas)
bthaxor (18 bananas)
Lyrad (17 bananas)
123Nucgaek (17 bananas)
SBoy (17 bananas)
Fabius (17 bananas)
sharmanhall (17 bananas)
kompo (17 bananas)
This event was really fun, and we're glad so many of you enjoyed it! We're looking forward to running more fun promotions like this one in the future.
If you didn't participate, we still love you. I promise.

Happy Super Monkey Ball Day!

Hey there fellow Hackulousians!
Two years ago, on July 13th, 2008, the first iPhone application was cracked. That app, as we've all come to know and love, was Super Monkey Ball. Since then, we've come a long way. Hackulous has over 300,000 members, and our brand new baby Apptrackr now has more than 18,000 apps. However, none of that comes even CLOSE to the amount of Installous users! Just this past Sunday, Installous was downloaded onto its 3,000,000th device! (That's three million, for those who don't like numbers). Our iPhone scene is ridiculously large - Apptrackr receives literally millions of page views a day!
As a way to celebrate the cracking of the first iPhone App, we've decided to call July 13th Super Monkey Ball Day! Super Monkey Ball Day isn't just about Super Monkey Ball, but rather it's dedicated to celebrating all cracked apps, as well as everything we've developed along the way. In honor of this glorious holiday, we at Hackulous have decided to run a promotion! Now we all know that monkeys love bananas, so what better way to celebrate Super Monkey Ball Day by collecting them?
Here's how it works.
This Promotion has ended! Thanks for Playing! Banana codes have been scattered throughout all of the websites we own, such as apptrackr and Hackulous (among others). Find as many codes as you can. We can't tell you how many codes there are, but they've all been hidden! Some will be easy to find, while others will be harder to locate.
When you've think you've found all the codes possible send us an email at supermonkeyballday [at] gmail [dot] com with the subject " I've found # codes!" (Obviously replace "#" with the number of codes you found) and in the body of the email put every code that you've found on a separate line. Make sure you email us by 11:59 PM PST! Remember, you only get ONE ENTRY.
Rules of the game are:
- All codes are 13 alphanumeric characters, all uppercase. We won't give you misleading codes, but others might! Watch Out!
- Don't give out the codes that you find, tell others how many you have, or help others find other codes -- it decreases your chances of winning! (And it'll disqualify you! We want this promotion to be fair to everyone!)
- You get ONE ENTRY. Multiple Submissions will automatically be disqualified.
- The subject line must read: I've found (# FOUND) codes!. Incorrect submissions will automatically be disqualified.
- Sorry, Moderators and Administrators aren't eligible
But don't worry, we'll have some prizes for you later!
We'll show you where all the banana codes were soon after!
This Promotion has ended! Thanks for Playing!
Yes, there are prizes! The people who find the most codes will receive iTunes gift cards in amounts up to $100 USD, depending on how many codes you find. We'll have multiple prizes including $100, $50, $25, lots of $10, and advancements memberships to give away! Prizes will be awarded to the members who find the MOST codes, the FASTEST, so search hard for them, but don't take too long! Did I mention it's absolutely free to participate? Sweet deal!
Just to get you guy's started, here's a code! JSDHGFIU4H821

iOS 4.0 has been now released to the world. Here is a F.A.Q. for all your needs. Information will be added as it comes in. Also feel free to ask questions in the comments.
Q: Should I upgrade now?
A: Don’t. Allow developers to push stable jailbreaking tools. Also, DON’T upgrade if you want to be able to unlock your iPhone. iOS 4 is confirmed to be unlockable , but the unlock is coming later this month. Unlock has been released, see update 1.
Q: What if I still want to?
A: If you really want to update and jailbreak right away, you can do that with beta and unofficial tools:
Q: Why is everything slow?
A: Hackulous & Apptrackr will both be very slow for few days now due everybody re-downloading packages and apps. As will most likely Apple's servers along with Cydia.
Q: Is Installous iOS 4.0 compatible.
A: Yes.
Q: How do I download Installous and Appsync for 4.0?
A: Add our source cydia.hackulo.us to Cydia.
Q: What's AppSync 4.0?
A: Appsync allows you to sync cracked apps with iTunes. Reboot after installation.
Q: How do I get cracked apps for testing purposes?
A: Go to http://apptrackr.org/ on your desktop or browse with Installous.
Q: How do I get the new OS?
A: First you need iTunes 9.2. Then connect your iDevice and check updates in your iTunes or download directly from link of your choice:
